Ed Davey Takes Cabinet Post

Following the resignation of MP Chris Huhne last week, Mansfield born MP Ed Davey has taken over as the countries Secretary Of State for Energy and Climate Change.

Chris Huhne chose to step down after a personal indescretion was brought public when it was rumoured that his ex-wife took penalty points for him after he commited a driving offence, he denies these allegations, but resigned from the post and now fellow Lib Dem MP, Edward Davey, who was born in Mansfield and educated in Nottingham, will now take the post.

Davey, who is also MP for the London area of Kingston and Surbiton has a big job on his hands with this post, being tasked with helping the UK be part of the global effort to reduce carbon emissions, and see through the governments promise to be the Greenest ever, all whilst working on a tight economic budget.

One particular talking point will be Davey’s handling of both the Feed In Tariff (currently being disputed in court) aimed at providing  solar panels to the masses, and also the Green Deal, due to come in to effect later this year, to provide households all over the country with grants and the ability to install home insulation.

Davey’s background has seen him as part of an environmental campaigning group, so his heart should definitely be in the job, however, he will be closely watched and scrutinised to see if he really can lead this country on the green revolution we all want to see.
