Challenges overcome on Lord & Bishop Street.

Following the appointment of Westville, work commenced with the scaffolding first erected in November 2020. The scope of the project involved applying Permarock 90mm eps and finishing the houses with a 1.5mm textured finish to over 42 properties of all shapes and sizes. Working during the terrible winter weather with no place for parking on the narrow streets, Westville decided to set up the compound in a local car park around the corner to alleviate traffic and dirt issues.

The entire project was implemented following rigorous Covid procedures to protect both staff working on-site and to residents of the entire area, with Westville having to display proper protocols and care to gain the trust of working inside people’s homes over the uncertain winter period. When word spread of our team’s professionalism, it became easier to progress on our work in often tight areas.

Luke Buckle & Josh Coupe

EWI Full System Installer & Apprentice EWI Installer

Full System EWI installer Luke Buckle has been at Westville for over eleven and a half years, starting out as a loft installer before embarking and completing a Westville backed NVQ level 2 training scheme. Luke is now a fully qualified EWI installer. His incredible eye for detail and excellent work ethic played a major part in ensuring the quality of workmanship on this project. Away from Westville, Luke likes nothing more than spending time with his wife and two children, doing a bit of DIY and fixing cars.

As one of Westville’s youngest employees, eighteen-year-old Josh Coupe is fast becoming an accomplished plasterer, recently completing his level 2 plastering diploma. He is now working towards achieving an NVQ to become a full EWI installer. Before life at Westville, Josh previously worked as a sub-contract fencer, honing his skills in time management while also understanding the importance of achieving customer satisfaction. Under the watchful eye of Westville mentors Luke Buckle & Rob Collier, Josh’s rendering skills helped play an important part in this project as he produced an excellent finish for everyone to see. Outside of Westville, Josh lives locally with his parents, likes playing snooker and walking the family dog.

After completion of the project in August 2021, the initial goal of helping residents move out of the fuel poverty cycle has been a resounding success! Residents of both Lord Street & Bishop Street have commented just how easy it is to heat their homes and keep them heated. Another positive remark from the locals was that thanks to the combination of the quality of the work from Westville and the finish from the selected products, the visuals of the area has improved dramatically. The area once again becoming a visually appealing, maybe even to visiting football fans as they pass through!

As a result of the work done by Westville, the total estimated energy bill savings could be up to £8,820 per year, that’s an average of £210 saved her household!

Environmentally speaking, this project will save an enormous 37.3 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere each year. That’s the same amount of carbon sequestered by 26 football pitches-worth of trees, that’s more than enough pitches to start a new league!
