This fund was combined with ECO4 grants, managed by Westville for eligible residents who qualified for ECO4 funding, with the council covering any remaining costs.
Focused on Pleasley and Ladybrook, the project upgraded semi-detached and terraced homes with EPC ratings of D or lower. Challenges included roofline extensions and window replacements. Conducted in two phases in 2024, Westville handled lead sourcing, grant management, retrofit assessments, and coordination to PAS 2035 standards, providing electrical, plumbing, and ventilation improvements as needed.
Navigating planning restrictions required careful attention to maintain the character of the street-facing facades. Properties with existing render or pebbledash were refinished to match, while homes with brick exteriors received a detailed brick-effect render. This specialised technique involved stencilling brick shapes into the render, creating an authentic finish. Although intricate and time-intensive, it ensured a seamless, high-quality result.
Adapting to seasonal conditions also presented challenges, particularly as many properties were completed in autumn and winter 2024. Despite the weather-related delays, Westville’s efficient planning and coordination kept the project on track. Each home’s individual design added further complexity, but the tailored approach guaranteed that every property met both aesthetic and energy efficiency standards.
EWI Installer & Service Team
Mark Evans - has worked alongside the EWI installers to add the finishing touches to the Mansfield properties. Mark's superb attention to detail has ensured any minor snags have been rectified to finish all properties to Westville's high standards.
John Harmieson and Jamie Lee from the service team were responsible for making sure all the materials were on site and keeping the areas tidy during the work. Following installation completion they did a thorough clean of all the property exteriors and disposed of any rubbish. Their consistent invaluable service and courtesy to all customers is appreciated by both the residents and clients.
A total of 21 homes were completely transformed, both visually and economically. With significantly improved EPC ratings, residents now benefit from enhanced energy efficiency and lower energy costs. The quality of the work received outstanding feedback, with homeowners reporting noticeable improvements in warmth and comfort since the insulation was completed.
Following the work in Mansfield, residents are set to save an estimated £6,720 annually on their energy bills.*
This Better Care Fund project will also prevent over 18.9 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere each year — equivalent to the emissions from 16,891 barbecues annually. That’s a lot of crozzled burgers!**
We’ve had the opportunity to work on some inspiring projects with some fantastic residential clients, businesses and local authorities.
