Last month, we shared why Westville is working towards B Corp Certification and what that journey means for our business, our customers and our communities. As we’ve progressed through the assessment, one thing has become increasingly clear: becoming a B Corp isn’t about changing who we are. It’s about demonstrating the values, responsibility and long-term commitment that have always been part of Westville.
For this update, we’re focusing on one of the key B Corp pillars – Environment – and sharing some of the practical steps we’re taking to measure, improve and demonstrate our environmental impact.
Why the Environment Pillar Matters
Environmental responsibility has always been central to Westville’s work. Every insulation and retrofit project we complete helps customers improve energy efficiency and reduce heat loss. Alongside this, we’re committed to improving our own environmental performance and encouraging others to adopt more sustainable practices.
Supporting Environmental Awareness Through Education
Westville recently delivered a training day at North Notts College, introducing students to External Wall Insulation (EWI), its environmental benefits and the practical skills needed to install high-quality systems. By sharing knowledge with the next generation of installers, we’re helping build the skills needed to support the UK’s retrofit ambitions.
We also visited a local primary school to deliver a climate change awareness session before inviting pupils to design posters about protecting the environment. Activities like these encourage positive environmental habits and demonstrate that creating lasting change starts with education.

Environmental Responsibility Has Always Been Part of Westville
Although our B Corp assessment has encouraged us to measure our impact more formally, environmental responsibility has been embedded within Westville for many years.
Through our Planet Protect initiative, Westville has continued to reduce waste, minimise pollution, conserve water and encourage recycling across the business. We’ve also promoted environmental awareness through customer education, school visits and practical changes such as reducing unnecessary travel and embracing online meetings wherever appropriate. These actions demonstrate that sustainability has been embedded within our day-to-day operations long before our B Corp assessment began.

Measuring Our Own Environmental Impact
As part of our B Corp assessment, Westville completed an energy audit to identify opportunities to reduce our operational carbon emissions. The findings led to additional solar panels being installed at our premises, alongside further improvements that are expected to reduce our carbon emissions by approximately 1.6 tonnes every year.
The energy audit represents another important milestone in our B Corp journey. It enables us to better understand our operational impact, identify opportunities for improvement and measure the effectiveness of changes over time. By combining practical action with measurable outcomes, we’re strengthening the environmental standards that have always been part of Westville.
