Our B Corp progress is about more than completing an assessment. It is giving us an opportunity to look closely at how Westville operates and ask whether we can do things better for our customers, our people, our community and the environment.
In our first updates, we shared why Westville is pursuing B Corp certification and what we have learned from the impact assessment process. This time, we want to look at something more important from a customer’s perspective: what does all of this actually mean for you?
The answer is that our sustainability journey is influencing the decisions we make, from how we think about our environmental impact to the businesses we work with and the way we deliver our services.
Looking more carefully at the suppliers we work with
A responsible business does not operate in isolation. The products, materials and services we use are connected to a much wider supply chain.
As our B Corp progress continues, this means looking more closely at the wider impact of the businesses and suppliers we work with.
As part of our B Corp journey, we have been encouraged to look more closely at the businesses we work with and consider factors beyond cost and convenience. This includes thinking about environmental responsibility, ethical business practices and the wider impact of our purchasing decisions.
For customers, this matters because choosing a responsible business is not only about what happens when our team arrives at your property. It is also about the decisions made behind the scenes to deliver the work.
Where we can make better choices without compromising quality, service or value, we believe we have a responsibility to do so.
Creating a positive impact beyond individual projects
Our work is rooted in the communities we serve. Improving energy efficiency and helping customers make their homes and buildings more comfortable and efficient is one part of that contribution.
But our responsibility extends beyond individual installations.
Our Planet Protect initiative reflects our wider commitment to environmental responsibility and encourages us to consider how Westville can create a positive impact beyond the immediate work we carry out.
We are also looking at the role we can play as a local business, including how we support the communities around us.
These details are important because sustainability is not simply about reducing carbon emissions. A genuinely responsible business should also consider its relationship with its local community and the people affected by its decisions.
Taking responsibility for our own environmental impact
It would be difficult for us to talk about improving energy efficiency for our customers without looking at our own environmental footprint.
As part of this work, Westville has completed an energy audit and installed additional solar panels. Based on current estimates, these improvements are expected to reduce our carbon emissions by approximately 1.6 tonnes every year.
This is a practical example of our B Corp progress in action: identifying where improvements are possible, taking action and measuring the impact.
We know that no business becomes sustainable overnight. What matters is being willing to understand our impact and keep improving it.
What is changing for our customers?
The B Corp process is also encouraging us to think about sustainability as part of the overall customer experience, rather than something separate from our services.
For customers, that means continuing to focus on the things that matter most: good advice, quality workmanship, clear communication and solutions that deliver genuine value.
Our work can help customers improve energy efficiency, reduce energy consumption and create more comfortable homes and buildings. But we also want customers to understand the wider reasoning behind the recommendations we make.
If there are changes we can demonstrate, we will share them openly. We believe customers should be able to see the practical difference that responsible business principles make.
Sustainability should be measurable, not just a promise
One of the most useful aspects of the B Corp process is that it challenges businesses to look beyond statements and consider evidence.
For Westville, that means asking questions such as:
- What impact are our operations having on the environment?
- Are we making responsible purchasing decisions?
- How are we contributing to our local community?
- Are we providing customers with high-quality, energy-efficient solutions?
- Where can we improve?
The answers will not always be perfect. That is part of the reason for undertaking the process in the first place.
Our energy audit and additional solar panels are examples of action we have already taken. Our ongoing review of suppliers, community impact and customer experience is helping identify where we can do more.
What happens next?
We are still working towards B Corp certification, so our B Corp progress journey is not finished.
For us, certification is not simply about achieving a badge or adding another logo to our website. The real value is in using the process to understand our impact and make meaningful improvements.
We will continue sharing our progress because we believe customers deserve transparency about the businesses they choose to work with.
And if you choose Westville because you value quality, energy efficiency, sustainability and supporting responsible local businesses, we want to hear about your experience.
Have you worked with Westville?
Customer feedback is an important part of our journey.
If you have worked with Westville and feel that we delivered a positive experience, we would be grateful if you would take a few minutes to share your experience in a Google review.
